Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Domestic Abuse Support Worker to join our vital team in Ipswich. In this crucial role, you will provide direct practical and emotional support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse, helping them to navigate crisis, access safety planning, legal advice, housing, and emotional support. This role requires a deep understanding of the dynamics of domestic abuse, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to empowering survivors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop personalised safety plans.
- Advocate on behalf of clients with external agencies, including housing, legal, and social services.
- Facilitate access to safe accommodation and support services.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records.
- Deliver group work sessions and workshops for survivors.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings to ensure coordinated client support.
- Offer crisis intervention and de-escalation support.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of our services.
Required Skills
- Proven experience working with vulnerable individuals, ideally in a support or advocacy role.
- Understanding of the complexities and impact of domestic abuse.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans effectively.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a caseload.
- Empathy, resilience, and a non-judgmental approach.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in social work, counselling, criminology, or a related field.
- Experience working within a multi-agency framework.
- Knowledge of local support services and referral pathways in Suffolk.
- Full UK driving license and access to a car.
