Job Description

Are you looking for a rewarding entry-level career in healthcare? Sunderland Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is excited to offer a unique opportunity for a Trainee Phlebotomist. This role includes fully paid clinical training, making it perfect for individuals passionate about patient care who have no prior experience in phlebotomy. You will learn the essential skills needed to safely and effectively collect blood samples, contributing directly to patient diagnosis and treatment. This is a hands-on, on-site position within a busy hospital environment where you will be an integral part of our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate fully in comprehensive, structured, and fully paid clinical training specific to phlebotomy techniques and patient care.
  • Under supervision, learn to identify patients and confirm correct procedures.
  • Practice and eventually perform venipuncture according to established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Learn to correctly label and prepare blood samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Adhere to strict infection control and health and safety policies.
  • Develop excellent communication skills to interact empathetically with patients, explaining procedures and ensuring their comfort.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
