Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Drilling Fluids Engineer (Mud Engineer) to join our operations in Mississauga, Ontario. This critical role involves managing all aspects of drilling fluid systems on assigned rigs, ensuring optimal performance, cost efficiency, and compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring drilling fluid programs, providing technical expertise to drilling teams, and troubleshooting any fluid-related issues. This position may involve significant time spent at various rig sites within Canada, with administrative duties based out of our Mississauga office. We offer Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) support for qualified international candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and monitor drilling fluid programs in accordance with well plans and geological conditions.
  • Conduct regular fluid analysis, including density, viscosity, pH, and chemical concentration, and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of fluid properties, chemical consumption, and operational parameters.
  • Provide technical recommendations and support to drilling supervisors and rig crews.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve drilling fluid-related issues such as lost circulation, wellbore instability, and differential sticking.
  • Manage inventory of drilling fluid products and equipment on location.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and end-of-well reports.
  • Participate in pre-well planning and post-well reviews.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer or Mud Engineer.
  • Strong understanding of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and hydraulics.
  • Proficiency in drilling fluid testing procedures and equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote rig sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • Experience with offshore or deepwater drilling operations.
  • Certification from a recognized drilling fluids school or organization.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software and reporting tools.
