Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic education student looking for practical, paid experience within a university setting? James Cook University is seeking a dedicated Education Student Intern to serve as a Paid Teaching Assistant. This entry-level position is designed to provide aspiring educators with valuable hands-on experience in supporting academic staff and students. You will assist with classroom activities, student queries, and administrative tasks, gaining insight into the daily operations of higher education teaching. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for those with no prior experience in a teaching assistant role, but a strong passion for education and learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist academic staff with the preparation and delivery of learning materials and classroom activities.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, clarifying concepts and assisting with assignments under supervision.
- Help maintain a positive and engaging learning environment for all students.
- Assist with basic administrative tasks, such as tracking attendance, organizing course materials, and scheduling.
- Support the setup and pack down of teaching spaces and equipment.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities as required.
- Adhere to university policies and procedures regarding student support and confidentiality.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate education program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- A genuine passion for education and supporting student learning.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
