Job Description

The Merseyside Emergency Services Communications Centre is excited to launch our Trainee Program for Emergency Services Telecommunicators. We are seeking motivated, compassionate, and resilient individuals to join our team in Liverpool. This entry-level position offers comprehensive, fully-paid training to equip you with all the skills needed to excel in this critical role. As an Emergency Services Telecommunicator, you will be the first point of contact for individuals in crisis, dispatching appropriate emergency services and providing vital pre-arrival instructions. Key Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls promptly and professionally.
- Gather critical information from callers to assess situations and determine appropriate responses.
- Provide clear, concise, and calm instructions to callers during emergencies.
- Dispatch police, fire, or ambulance units to incident locations efficiently.
- Maintain accurate records of calls and actions taken in a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
- Monitor radio channels and communicate effectively with field units.
- Stay calm and composed in high-stress situations, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
- Adhere to all policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines of the communications centre.
- Participate actively in ongoing training and professional development.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills with a clear and articulate speaking voice.
- Strong active listening skills and the ability to extract critical information quickly.
- High level of empathy and compassion for individuals in distress.
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure in fast-paced environments.
- Basic computer proficiency and accurate typing skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and sound decision-making skills.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Liverpool City Region geography and local landmarks.
- Previous experience in a customer service or public-facing role.
- Familiarity with standard radio communication procedures.
- Resilience and coping mechanisms for emotionally challenging situations.
