Job Description
The Glynmill Inn is seeking a visionary, highly skilled, and experienced Executive Chef to lead our esteemed culinary team in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and inspire all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, food preparation, cooking techniques, and artistic presentation.
- Develop innovative, seasonal, and cost-effective menus that incorporate local ingredients and respond adeptly to evolving guest preferences and dietary needs.
- Strategically manage inventory, meticulously control food costs, and oversee procurement processes to ensure both profitability and uncompromising quality.
- Actively recruit, thoroughly train, effectively mentor, and proficiently supervise all kitchen staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, and highly productive work environment.
- Ensure strict adherence to all food safety regulations, hygiene protocols, and sanitation standards at all times.
- Maintain all kitchen equipment, ensuring proper functionality, regular cleaning, and timely repairs.
- Collaborate closely with the restaurant management team to continuously optimize dining experiences and enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Oversee and manage culinary aspects of special events, catering functions, and banquets as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive culinary experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role such as Executive Chef or Head Chef, within a high-volume, fine-dining restaurant or hotel.
- Demonstrated expertise in diverse culinary techniques, international cuisine, and a strong understanding of current culinary trends.
- Exceptional leadership, strong communication, and superior interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to effectively manage budgets, control food costs, and optimize inventory systems.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian food safety regulations and best practices.
- Culinary degree or an equivalent professional qualification from a recognized institution.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new cultural environments and effectively lead a diverse and multicultural team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with Canadian culinary trends, a keen understanding of local Newfoundland ingredients, and the ability to incorporate them creatively.
- Advanced certification in Food Safety Management (e.g., HACCP, FoodSafe Level 2).
- Experience in a hotel setting with multiple dining outlets or diverse culinary offerings.
- Fluency in multiple languages.
