Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Lead to join our major construction project team in Fremantle. This critical role involves overseeing all aspects of fire protection systems from design through to commissioning, ensuring full compliance with Australian standards, building codes, and project specifications. The successful candidate will be a technical expert, a proactive problem-solver, and a strong leader capable of managing contractors, coordinating with various stakeholders, and driving the successful implementation of robust fire safety solutions on large-scale developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and implementation of fire protection systems for major construction projects.
  • Ensure all fire protection designs and installations comply with AS/NZS standards, BCA, relevant codes, and project-specific requirements.
  • Review and approve fire protection designs, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Manage fire protection subcontractors, overseeing their work quality, schedule, and safety performance.
  • Coordinate fire protection works with other trades and project disciplines to ensure seamless integration.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to verify compliance and quality of fire protection installations.
  • Develop and implement testing and commissioning plans for all fire protection systems.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for fire authorities and consultants regarding fire protection matters.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and site personnel.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to fire protection throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in fire protection design, installation, and commissioning on major construction projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of Australian Building Codes (BCA) and relevant AS/NZS fire protection standards (e.g., AS 1670, AS 1851, AS 2118, AS 2419).
  • Strong understanding of various fire protection systems, including sprinkler, hydrant, detection, and suppression systems.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fire Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field.
  • Professional membership with relevant industry bodies (e.g., FPA Australia).
  • Experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) for fire services coordination.
  • Certifications in fire safety or fire protection design.
  • Prior experience working on large-scale commercial, residential, or public infrastructure projects.
