Job Description
Join the Sobeys team in Summerside as a Fish Market Ice Shoveler! This is a hands-on, vital role ensuring our fresh seafood displays are always pristine, chilled, and visually appealing for our customers. You will be responsible for the continuous replenishment and maintenance of ice on our seafood counters. This position requires physical stamina and the ability to work in a cold, wet environment. No prior experience is necessary; we provide comprehensive training to all new team members. Key Responsibilities
- Regularly shovel, transport, and distribute ice onto fish and seafood display cases.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the fish market display areas and equipment.
- Monitor ice levels throughout the day, ensuring consistent replenishment and proper presentation.
- Assist with the rotation of products to ensure freshness and reduce waste.
- Adhere strictly to all food safety and sanitation guidelines and company policies.
- Operate ice machines and other relevant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Support other fish market team members with tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and shoveling.
- Comfortable working in a cold and wet environment for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Attention to detail for maintaining display standards and hygiene.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
- Basic communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physical labor role or a retail environment is a plus, but not required.
- Basic understanding of food safety principles (training will be provided).
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
