Job Description

Canadian National Railway (CN) is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Freight Train Conductor (Trainee) in London, Ontario. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals with no prior railway experience to receive comprehensive, paid training at our state-of-the-art academy. As a conductor, you will be a vital part of our operations, responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trains, ensuring freight reaches its destination on time. This role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, a dynamic schedule, and significant travel within your assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively and successfully complete all phases of the paid training academy, including classroom and field instruction.
- Operate track switches and assist with coupling and uncoupling cars.
- Manage the movement of trains, following signals and instructions.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, operating rules, and company policies.
- Perform inspections of train cars and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, engineers, and other crew members.
- Complete necessary paperwork and reports accurately.
- Work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and be available for travel as required by operational needs.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to read and understand operating rules and regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to strict protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Physical fitness to perform duties including climbing, lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work a varied schedule and travel extensively.
- Successful completion of pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.

- Experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
- Mechanical aptitude or experience with heavy equipment.
