Job Description

The Senior Center Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the daily operation and success of one of our key senior community centers. This position involves overseeing program development, facility management, and fostering a welcoming environment for senior participants. The successful candidate will be a proactive leader with a passion for senior advocacy and community engagement, ensuring our center operates efficiently and provides high-quality services and activities during day hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations and administration of the senior center.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a diverse range of programs, activities, and services tailored to the interests and needs of senior participants.
  • Manage facility logistics, including scheduling, maintenance requests, and ensuring a safe, clean, and accessible environment.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and part-time staff assisting with center activities.
  • Administer budgets, track expenses, and manage inventory for center supplies and program materials.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for center participants, their families, and community partners.
  • Promote center programs and services through various communication channels.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant municipal policies, health and safety regulations, and accessibility standards.
  • Collect and analyze program data to identify trends, measure impact, and inform future planning.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with other City departments and community organizations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in program coordination or management, preferably in a community or senior services setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement engaging recreational, educational, and social programs for seniors.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid G Class Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain promptly).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Gerontology, Social Work, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with budget management and grant applications.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and services for older adults in Hamilton.
  • Experience supervising staff and volunteers.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
