Job Description

We are seeking a enthusiastic and dedicated Glassblowing & Kiln Casting Intern to join our dynamic School of Art team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience in the captivating world of glass artistry. You will work alongside experienced faculty and studio technicians, learning fundamental techniques in both glassblowing and kiln casting. This role is perfect for someone with a strong interest in glass art who is eager to learn from the ground up and contribute to a creative studio environment. No prior professional glass experience is required; we provide comprehensive training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist faculty and studio technicians with daily operations in the glassblowing and kiln casting studios.
  • Learn and practice safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials used in glass art.
  • Support the preparation of materials, including batch mixing, mold making, and color preparation.
  • Observe and assist with various stages of glassblowing, from gathering glass to shaping and finishing pieces.
  • Participate in kiln loading, firing, and unloading processes for casting and annealing.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe studio environment.
  • Assist with inventory management and ordering of supplies.
  • Document processes and projects as required.
  • Engage actively in learning new techniques and artistic concepts.

  • Previous experience in a workshop or studio setting (not necessarily glass-related).
  • A portfolio demonstrating artistic interest or foundational skills (drawing, sculpture, etc.).
