Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and committed Government Funded Youth Worker to join our dynamic team, focusing on evening and weekend shifts. This crucial role involves working directly with young people aged 11-18 in various community settings across Maidstone. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging activities, offering mentorship, and providing vital support to help youth navigate challenges and achieve their personal goals. This is an on-site position where your presence and direct interaction will be key to fostering a positive and impactful environment for the young people of Maidstone.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organise, and facilitate a diverse range of engaging and educational activities and workshops for young people during evening and weekend hours.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support, mentoring, and guidance to young people facing social, emotional, or educational challenges.
  • Act as a positive role model, promoting respect, inclusivity, and responsible behaviour amongst all participants.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all young people under your care, adhering strictly to safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, external agencies, and community partners to enhance program delivery and reach.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of activities, attendance, and incidents, reporting as required.
  • Engage effectively with parents, guardians, and local communities to build trust and encourage broader participation in our programs.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 12 months experience working directly with young people in a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and effectively with diverse youth populations.
  • A strong understanding of child protection and safeguarding principles, including a willingness to undergo enhanced DBS checks.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work regular evening and weekend shifts as required by the program schedule.
  • Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for youth development and community engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Education, or a related field (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or higher, degree).
  • Current First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge of local youth services, resources, and community networks within Maidstone and Kent.
  • Experience in planning and delivering recreational or educational activities for groups of young people.
