Job Description

Are you a motivated nursing student eager to gain invaluable hands-on experience in a dynamic community setting? Flinders and Upper North Local Health Network invites aspiring nurses to join our team for a Community Nursing Student Placement in Whyalla. This placement offers a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world community health scenarios, working alongside experienced community health nurses. You will observe, assist, and learn about the diverse aspects of community care, patient education, chronic disease management, and health promotion within a supportive and collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified nurses with patient assessments and care plans in home and community settings.
  • Observe and participate in medication management and wound care procedures.
  • Support patient education initiatives on health promotion, disease prevention, and self-management.
  • Accurately document patient observations, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
  • Learn about referral pathways and coordination of care services within the community.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and privacy.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a recognized Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent program.
  • Demonstrated foundational knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently under supervision.
  • Proactive and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.
  • Current National Police Clearance and Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid South Australian driver's license (desirable for community visits).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of at least the second year of a Bachelor of Nursing program.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare volunteer role or clinical simulation.
  • A demonstrated interest in community health and public health initiatives.
