Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Greenhouse / Horticulture Supervisor to join our team in Whitehorse. This pivotal role involves overseeing daily operations within our state-of-the-art greenhouse facilities, ensuring optimal plant health, efficient resource management, and the supervision of a small, dynamic team. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise daily greenhouse operations, including seeding, planting, irrigation, pest management, and harvesting schedules.
- Monitor environmental conditions within the greenhouse (temperature, humidity, light, CO2) and adjust systems as needed to optimize plant growth.
- Train, mentor, and supervise greenhouse staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
- Implement and maintain integrated pest management (IPM) programs.
- Oversee inventory of supplies, equipment, and plant stock, ensuring timely procurement.
- Maintain accurate records of crop cycles, yields, labor, and resource usage.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate maintenance as required.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new horticultural practices and technologies.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in greenhouse or horticultural management.
- Strong knowledge of plant physiology, pathology, and nutrition.
- Experience with irrigation systems and climate control technology.
- Proven leadership and team supervision skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Experience with hydroponic or aquaponic systems.
- Familiarity with northern climate horticulture challenges.
- Pesticide applicator certification (or willingness to obtain).
