Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and diligent Hansard Transcriber with a strong focus on parliamentary record-keeping to join our dedicated team in Kalgoorlie. This pivotal role involves accurately transcribing debates, speeches, and other proceedings from audio recordings into written format, ensuring the integrity and precision of the official parliamentary record. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional listening skills, a high level of linguistic accuracy, and a commitment to impartiality and confidentiality. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the historical and public record of the Western Australian Parliament.
Key Responsibilities
- Transcribe parliamentary debates, committee meetings, and other official proceedings from audio recordings with speed and accuracy.
- Verify proper names, terminology, and references using official sources and established style guides.
- Edit and proofread transcripts for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, punctuation, and factual accuracy.
- Adhere strictly to parliamentary protocols, style guides, and confidentiality requirements.
- Manage multiple transcription tasks efficiently to meet strict deadlines.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency and quality across all parliamentary records.
- Utilize specialized transcription software and equipment effectively.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of parliamentary procedures and current affairs.
Required Skills
- Minimum typing speed of 80 WPM with high accuracy.
- Exceptional listening and comprehension skills.
- Superior knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Acute attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in using transcription software and standard office applications.
- Strong research skills to verify factual information and terminology.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and impartiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Journalism, English, Linguistics, Legal Studies, or a related field.
- Previous experience in Hansard transcription, legal transcription, or high-volume corporate transcription.
- Familiarity with parliamentary procedures and terminology.
- Experience with digital audio editing tools.
