Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Human Rights Support – Public Policy Assistant to join our dynamic team in Gosford. This entry-level role is perfect for an individual with a strong passion for human rights and public policy, eager to learn and contribute to meaningful advocacy work. You will provide crucial support to our public policy and advocacy efforts, assisting with research, document preparation, and administrative tasks. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity to start a career in the humanitarian sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preliminary research on human rights issues and public policy developments relevant to the Australian Red Cross mission.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, reports, submissions, and other advocacy materials.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and take minutes for various policy-related discussions.
  • Provide administrative support to the public policy team, including managing correspondence and maintaining databases.
  • Monitor legislative and policy changes, summarizing key information for the team.
  • Support the organization of public policy events, workshops, and consultations.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated interest and passion for human rights and social justice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and adapt.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field (or currently pursuing).
  • Some volunteer experience in a non-profit or advocacy setting.
  • Familiarity with public policy processes in Australia.
