Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Hydro Power Technician to join our operations team in the Gold Coast area. This critical role involves the maintenance, operation, and troubleshooting of hydro power generation equipment within our utility-based facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical and mechanical background, a commitment to safety, and a passion for renewable energy. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of our hydro assets, contributing directly to Australia’s clean energy supply.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative and corrective maintenance on hydro power plant equipment, including turbines, generators, control systems, and associated electrical/mechanical components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic faults to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity.
- Execute scheduled inspections, testing, and repairs in accordance with safety standards, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor plant performance, interpret data, and make adjustments to optimize efficiency and output.
- Accurately record maintenance activities, incident reports, and operational data using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Collaborate with engineers, operators, and other technicians to resolve issues and implement improvements.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies, fostering a culture of safety excellence.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergency breakdowns as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Electrical or Mechanical Technician, preferably in a heavy industrial or utility environment.
- Hold a relevant Australian recognised Electrical or Mechanical Trade Qualification.
- Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of industrial safety practices, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and P&IDs.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Current Australian Driver's License.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience specifically within hydro power generation, conventional power generation, or a similar heavy utility setting.
- High Voltage (HV) switching experience or qualifications.
- Experience with SCADA systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
- Post-trade qualifications or certifications in relevant fields (e.g., instrumentation, hydraulics).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
