Job Description
We are seeking a talented and experienced Intellectual Property (IP) Lawyer to join our growing team in Rotherham. The successful candidate will be instrumental in advising clients on a wide range of IP matters, including patents, trademarks, copyright, designs, and trade secrets. This role involves both contentious and non-contentious work, offering a unique opportunity to work with innovative businesses and individuals to protect their valuable intellectual assets. You will manage a diverse caseload, draft and review agreements, and represent clients in disputes, contributing significantly to the firm’s IP practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice on intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyright, industrial designs, and trade secrets.
- Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements such as licensing agreements, assignments, and R&D collaborations.
- Manage and prosecute trademark and design registrations, both domestically and internationally.
- Conduct IP due diligence for corporate transactions and provide risk assessments.
- Represent clients in IP disputes, including infringement claims, oppositions, and invalidity actions.
- Develop and implement IP protection strategies for clients across various industries.
- Stay abreast of developments in IP law and practice, both in the UK and internationally.
- Liaise effectively with clients, counsel, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to business development initiatives for the IP practice.
- Mentor junior legal professionals and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
Required Skills
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with a current practising certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience (PQE) specialising in Intellectual Property law.
- Strong understanding of UK and EU IP laws and regulations.
- Proven experience in both contentious and non-contentious IP matters.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload independently and efficiently.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- A client-focused approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality legal advice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IP matters in the technology, life sciences, or creative industries.
- Membership in professional IP associations (e.g., AIPPI, ITMA).
- Experience in cross-border IP issues.
- A background in science or engineering for patent-related work is a plus but not essential.
