Job Description

PCL Construction is seeking a highly motivated and physically capable individual to join our team as a Jackhammer Operator (Trainee). This is an entry-level position designed for individuals with no prior experience operating heavy machinery. You will receive comprehensive, on-the-job training from experienced professionals, learning the proper techniques for operating jackhammers safely and efficiently on various construction sites. This role involves extreme physical labor, often outdoors in various weather conditions, and requires a strong commitment to safety protocols and teamwork. Key Responsibilities
- Learn and apply safe operating procedures for jackhammers and related tools under direct supervision.
- Assist in breaking up concrete, asphalt, rock, and other materials as directed.
- Perform daily pre-operation checks and basic maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all site safety regulations, company policies, and provincial guidelines.
- Assist other crew members with various construction tasks as needed, demonstrating a team-oriented approach.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding progress, issues, and safety concerns.
Required Skills
- Exceptional physical stamina and strength, capable of performing extreme physical labor for extended periods.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take direction from experienced operators and supervisors.
- Strong commitment to safety and understanding of construction site hazards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential for project timelines.
- Must be at least 18 years old and legally eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Completion of a basic construction safety course (e.g., CSTS-09 or equivalent).
- Previous experience working in outdoor, physically demanding environments.
- First Aid certification is considered an asset.
