Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and organised Justice Department Assistant to join our Community Corrections team in Newcastle. This vital role provides administrative support to Community Corrections officers, assisting in the effective supervision and management of offenders in the community. You will be instrumental in maintaining accurate records, coordinating appointments, and supporting the smooth operation of our services, contributing directly to community safety and rehabilitation efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative support to Community Corrections Officers, including data entry, filing, and record management.
- Manage appointments and schedules for offenders and Community Corrections Officers.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents as required.
- Handle inquiries from clients, stakeholders, and the public, providing accurate information or directing them to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information and records.
- Assist with the maintenance of office supplies and equipment.
- Contribute to a positive and professional team environment.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated administrative experience, preferably within a government or legal setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Capacity to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in Business Administration, Legal Services, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a correctional, justice, or community services environment.
- Understanding of the principles of community corrections and the criminal justice system.
