Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Maintenance Machinist to join our dynamic manufacturing team in Glenorchy. The successful candidate will be responsible for the precision machining of parts, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of our production machinery and equipment. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our manufacturing processes, minimising downtime, and contributing to our high standards of product quality and operational safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on various manufacturing equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective repair solutions.
- Machine precision parts and components from various materials using manual and CNC machines to tight tolerances.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics to fabricate and repair machine parts.
- Conduct regular inspections of machinery to identify potential issues before they lead to breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and part replacements.
- Collaborate with production teams to schedule maintenance and minimise impact on manufacturing schedules.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new machinery as required.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Machinist or similar role in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machining equipment (lathes, mills, grinders).
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Demonstrated experience in diagnosing mechanical faults and performing precision repairs.
- Proficient in using a variety of hand and power tools common to machining and maintenance.
- Solid understanding of metallurgy and various machining materials.
- Commitment to safety practices and procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade).
- Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Familiarity with various types of industrial control systems.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- Forklift licence.
