Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Marine Surveyor to join our technical compliance team in Dandenong South. This ongoing full-time role involves conducting comprehensive surveys and inspections of marine vessels, offshore units, and marine equipment to ensure compliance with national and international regulations, class rules, and client specifications. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing detailed reports, providing expert advice, and contributing to the maintenance of high safety and quality standards across the maritime industry. This role requires a strong technical background, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the integrity of marine operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform various types of marine surveys, including new construction, in-service, damage, and statutory surveys.
- Inspect vessels, machinery, equipment, and structural components for compliance with relevant codes, conventions, and standards (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS).
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive survey reports, certificates, and documentation.
- Provide technical guidance and support to clients on regulatory compliance and best practices.
- Witness tests, trials, and commissioning of marine systems and equipment.
- Investigate incidents and casualties, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Liaise effectively with ship owners, operators, flag administrations, port authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in marine regulations, technology, and industry trends.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with Bureau Veritas's quality and safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven experience as a Marine Surveyor.
- Thorough understanding of IMO conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, STCW) and IACS Classification Rules.
- Strong knowledge of marine vessel structures, machinery, and systems.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in using survey tools and software.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
- Professional certification from a recognized marine surveying body (e.g., AMS, IIMS).
- Experience with specific vessel types such as bulk carriers, tankers, or passenger ships.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the maritime industry.
- Prior sea-going experience as a Deck Officer or Engineer.
