Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Mechatronics Engineering Intern to join our Automated Systems team in Morpeth, Northumberland. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art robotic systems and industrial automation technologies. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to real-world projects, from design and integration to testing and deployment. This role is ideal for individuals eager to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical, fast-paced industrial environment and develop their skills in mechatronics, robotics, and control systems. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, assembly, and testing of robotic work cells and automated systems.
  • Support senior engineers in the integration of mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  • Help with troubleshooting and diagnosing issues in existing automated systems.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of control algorithms and robot programming.
  • Document technical specifications, test procedures, and system configurations.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) activities.
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies and present findings to the team.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment in the lab and on the factory floor.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and electrical circuits.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, MATLAB).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and challenges.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360).
  • Knowledge of industrial automation components (PLCs, sensors, actuators).
  • Familiarity with robot operating systems (ROS) or similar robotics platforms.
  • Previous project work involving robotics, automation, or mechatronics systems.
  • Understanding of control systems theory and implementation.
