Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Lab Scientist to join our team in Campbelltown. This full-time, on-site position offers stable work within a high-volume diagnostic testing environment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in performing complex laboratory procedures, analysing patient samples, and contributing to accurate and timely diagnostic results. You will work with state-of-the-art equipment and contribute to a team focused on quality assurance and continuous improvement in patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures on patient samples, including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic analysis.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results through strict adherence to quality control protocols and laboratory standards.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with instrumentation and resolve discrepancies in test results.
  • Document and report test results accurately and efficiently, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the ongoing training and development of junior staff as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work environment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience working in a diagnostic pathology laboratory.
  • Proficiency in performing a variety of laboratory techniques across disciplines such as haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, or serology.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and recording results.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical practice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Medical Laboratory Science or a related discipline.
  • Membership with a professional body such as the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS).
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and pathology software.
  • Familiarity with NATA accreditation requirements and quality management systems.
