Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Parks & Gardens Labourer to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who love working outdoors and contributing to the beauty and functionality of our community’s green spaces. In this council role, you will be instrumental in the upkeep and development of Geelong’s parks, gardens, reserves, and streetscapes, ensuring they meet the high standards expected by our community. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate, making this an ideal entry-point into a rewarding career with local government.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance including mowing, whipper snipping, pruning, and weeding.
- Planting, watering, and maintaining garden beds and plant displays.
- Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Assist with landscaping projects, including soil preparation, mulching, and minor construction.
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance of park infrastructure such as benches, fences, and pathways.
- Ensure parks and public spaces are clean and free of litter and debris.
- Adhere to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors.
Required Skills
- A strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Ability to perform manual labour and physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to various outdoor working conditions.
- Basic understanding of safety procedures and practices.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Australian C Class Driver's License.
- Construction Induction White Card (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience operating basic gardening tools and machinery (e.g., mowers, blowers, whipper snippers) is an advantage but not essential as training will be provided.
