Job Description
FedEx Ground is seeking a motivated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a Loading Dock Chock Placer. This crucial on-site, outdoor role is vital for maintaining safety standards at our busy loading docks in Wilmington, NC. You will be responsible for the secure placement and removal of wheel chocks on trailers, preventing unexpected movement during loading and unloading operations. This position requires reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work in various outdoor weather conditions. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped with all necessary safety knowledge and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Securely place wheel chocks on trailer wheels at designated loading and unloading docks.
- Remove wheel chocks promptly and safely upon completion of loading/unloading and before trailer departure.
- Communicate effectively with truck drivers and dock personnel to coordinate chocking procedures.
- Monitor the loading dock area for potential safety hazards and report them immediately.
- Strictly adhere to all company safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment around the loading docks.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support efficient dock operations.
Required Skills
- Ability to work consistently outdoors in various weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, etc.)
- Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks, including bending, walking, and light lifting (up to 25 lbs)
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to all safety guidelines
- Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts
- Basic verbal communication skills to interact with team members and drivers
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Prior experience in a warehouse, logistics, or other outdoor operational setting
- Familiarity with basic loading dock safety procedures
