Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Meteorological Assistant to join our Burnie team. This role is ideal for an individual passionate about environmental science and data, eager to contribute to vital meteorological operations. You will play a crucial part in the collection, verification, and preliminary analysis of weather data, directly supporting our mission to provide accurate environmental intelligence to our partners and the Tasmanian community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collecting, verifying, and entering meteorological data from various instruments and sources.
  • Assisting in the routine maintenance and calibration of weather monitoring equipment.
  • Performing rigorous quality control checks on collected data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Generating routine reports and summaries of weather observations.
  • Supporting senior meteorologists and data analysts with research tasks and special projects.
  • Maintaining accurate records and comprehensive documentation of all data activities.
  • Responding to internal inquiries regarding weather data and providing basic information.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data handling.
  • Proficiency in data entry and fundamental computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to meticulously follow established protocols and procedures.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for team collaboration and reporting.
  • A strong interest in meteorology, environmental science, or related scientific fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate or Diploma in Environmental Science, Data Management, Meteorology, or a closely related field.
  • Prior experience with data collection, entry, or basic scientific instrumentation, even in a volunteer or academic capacity.
