Job Description

Join the dedicated team at the Danbury Museum & Historical Society as a Museum Exhibit Installation Assistant. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals who are meticulous, reliable, and eager to learn the specialized skills required for handling and installing valuable museum artifacts and exhibits. You will work under the guidance of experienced professionals, assisting with all phases of exhibit setup, breakdown, and maintenance. Full training will be provided on best practices for artifact handling, mounting techniques, and display presentation. Your careful approach and willingness to follow detailed instructions will be crucial to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior staff with the careful unpacking, placement, and installation of museum artifacts and exhibit components.
  • Learn and apply best practices for handling fragile and valuable objects, ensuring their safety throughout the installation process.
  • Support the maintenance and upkeep of exhibit spaces, including cleaning, minor repairs, and adjustments.
  • Aid in the construction of display cases, pedestals, and other exhibit structures.
  • Help with the de-installation and proper packing of exhibits when their display period concludes.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures related to tool use, lifting, and working in exhibit areas.
  • Maintain organized storage areas for exhibit materials and tools.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, curators, and other museum staff.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
  • Strong reliability and punctuality.
  • Eagerness and ability to learn new skills and follow precise instructions.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift, and carry items (up to 50 lbs) as required for exhibit setup.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in history, art, museums, or cultural heritage.
  • Prior experience with basic hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, wrenches) is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience in a similar setting (e.g., retail display, theater set construction) where careful handling of materials was important.
