Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and self-motivated National Parks Field Officer to join our team, focusing on remote and regional areas of South Australia. This unique role requires an individual with a strong commitment to environmental conservation, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in challenging environments. As a Field Officer, you will be instrumental in the day-to-day management, maintenance, and protection of our national parks and reserves, ensuring visitor safety, ecological health, and compliance with regulations. This is a 100% remote position, meaning you will manage your operations from various designated remote and regional sites, utilizing remote communication and reporting tools to coordinate with the broader team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols and inspections of national park areas to monitor environmental conditions, infrastructure, and visitor activity.
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks on park infrastructure, including walking trails, signage, fencing, and campgrounds.
  • Implement wildlife management strategies and participate in ecological monitoring programs.
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies within park boundaries, including assisting with search and rescue operations, bushfire management, and visitor welfare.
  • Engage with park visitors, providing information, education, and promoting responsible park use.
  • Ensure compliance with park regulations and environmental protection laws, reporting infringements as necessary.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of vehicles, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, observations, and incidents using remote reporting systems.
  • Collaborate with local communities, Indigenous groups, and other stakeholders on conservation initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
  • Strong understanding of environmental conservation principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in operating 4WD vehicles, ATVs, and a range of power tools.
  • Basic first aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to navigate using maps, GPS, and other navigational tools.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate III or IV in Conservation and Land Management or a related field.
  • Experience in natural resource management, land care, or park operations.
  • Chainsaw operation certification.
  • Bushfire fighting experience or qualifications.
  • Experience working with remote sensing or GIS technologies.
