Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Oncologist to join our esteemed medical team at Spire Cardiff Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cancer patients, providing comprehensive care from initial consultation through to treatment planning, delivery, and follow-up. This role requires a commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, patient-centered care, and continuous professional development. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert medical consultation and comprehensive care to patients with various types of cancer.
- Accurately diagnose cancer, stage disease, and develop individualized treatment plans in accordance with national and international guidelines.
- Administer and oversee various oncology treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies.
- Collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, specialist nurses, and palliative care specialists.
- Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) to discuss complex cases and optimize patient management.
- Educate patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options, potential side effects, and prognosis.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.
- Engage in continuous professional development and contribute to clinical audit and research initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant clinical governance, health, and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a valid Licence to Practise.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Medical Oncology or Clinical Oncology (CCT or equivalent).
- Extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of solid tumors and hematological malignancies.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement complex oncology treatment plans.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills for effective patient and family interaction.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and evidence-based practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) or equivalent.
- Experience in clinical leadership or service development within an oncology setting.
- Participation in clinical trials or research activities.
- Special interest in a specific sub-specialty of oncology.
