Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our esteemed medical team. The successful candidate will provide expert diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services for a wide range of ocular conditions, ensuring the highest standards of patient care. This role requires a commitment to clinical excellence, continuous professional development, and collaborative teamwork within a multidisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic examinations and diagnostics.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients.
- Perform various ophthalmic surgical procedures, including cataract surgery, glaucoma procedures, and other anterior segment surgeries.
- Manage and treat a broad spectrum of eye conditions, including medical retina, glaucoma, and ocular emergencies.
- Provide expert consultation and advice to general practitioners and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in on-call rotations for ophthalmic emergencies.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and service improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and trainees.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records.
Required Skills
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice.
- Entry on the Specialist Register (Ophthalmology) or be within six months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in general ophthalmology and sub-specialty interest.
- Demonstrable experience in performing a range of ophthalmic surgical procedures independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Sub-specialty interest and experience in a specific area such as medical retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics, or paediatric ophthalmology.
- Experience in clinical audit, research, or teaching.
- Leadership experience within an ophthalmic department or healthcare setting.
