Job Description

The Saskatchewan Health Authority is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team as an Orthopedic Cast Room Technician (Trainee). This entry-level position is perfect for someone with no prior experience in the field, as we provide comprehensive, on-the-job training. You will work directly under the guidance of experienced orthopedic specialists and technicians, learning the vital skills needed to support patient care in our busy orthopedic department. This is a clinical, hands-on role where you will play a crucial part in the application and removal of casts, splints, and other orthopedic devices, directly impacting patient recovery and comfort.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist orthopedic physicians and technicians with the application and removal of casts, splints, and other orthopedic devices.
  • Prepare cast room for procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available and sterilized.
  • Educate patients and their families on cast care, hygiene, and mobility restrictions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked cast room, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Monitor patients for comfort and safety during cast procedures.
  • Document patient information and procedures accurately in electronic health records.
  • Order and manage inventory of orthopedic supplies.
  • Provide compassionate and supportive care to patients undergoing orthopedic treatment.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new procedures and technologies.
  • Basic computer proficiency for documentation and record-keeping.
  • Empathy and a compassionate demeanor when working with patients.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient transfers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR.
  • Demonstrated interest in orthopedic care or medical support roles.
