Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Orthopedic Surgeon to join our esteemed team at Spire Murrayfield Hospital in Edinburgh. This is an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated professional to work within a state-of-the-art facility, delivering patient-centered care and contributing to our reputation for clinical excellence. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal diseases and injuries, performing surgical procedures, and providing comprehensive pre- and post-operative care. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the highest standards of patient safety and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient consultations, examinations, and diagnostic assessments.
  • Formulate and implement personalized treatment plans, including surgical and non-surgical interventions.
  • Perform a wide range of orthopedic surgical procedures, adhering to best practices and patient safety protocols.
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative care, including monitoring patient recovery and managing complications.
  • Collaborate with anesthesiologists, nurses, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, clinical governance, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Contribute to the hospital's reputation for excellence through outstanding patient care and clinical outcomes.

Required Skills

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a licence to practise.
  • Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in a broad range of orthopedic surgical techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing complex orthopedic cases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and team-working abilities.
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fellowship training in a sub-specialty of orthopedics (e.g., joint reconstruction, sports medicine, spinal surgery).
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring junior medical staff.
  • Participation in clinical research and publications.
  • Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) certification.
