Job Description

Join the City of Moncton as a Parking Enforcement Officer, a crucial role within our municipal services designed to ensure traffic flow and public safety across the city. You will be responsible for enforcing municipal parking bylaws, educating the public, and addressing parking-related inquiries. This council role provides the opportunity to serve your community directly, with a strong emphasis on professionalism and customer service. A full uniform will be provided, ensuring you are well-equipped for your duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or by vehicle to monitor parking compliance.
  • Issue parking infraction notices for violations of municipal bylaws.
  • Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding parking issues.
  • Educate residents and visitors on parking regulations and safety practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of all issued infractions and daily activities.
  • Operate and maintain parking enforcement equipment, including handheld devices.
  • Liaise with other city departments and emergency services as required.
  • Testify in court or administrative hearings regarding parking infractions when necessary.
  • Assist in managing special event parking and traffic control as directed.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in various situations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and a calm demeanor under pressure.
  • Basic computer proficiency for data entry and record-keeping.
  • Possession of a valid New Brunswick Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
  • Physical ability to stand, walk for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service and community safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience in customer service, public interaction, or bylaw enforcement.
  • Familiarity with municipal bylaws and traffic regulations.
  • First aid and CPR certification.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
