Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physical Therapy Aide to join our dynamic rehabilitation team in Hartford. In this vital support role, you will assist our licensed Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants in delivering exceptional patient care. Your primary duties will involve maintaining a clean and safe therapy environment, preparing treatment areas, and directly assisting patients under the supervision of a therapist. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about healthcare, eager to learn, and looking to contribute to a positive patient experience in a busy clinical setting. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize physical therapy equipment and treatment areas thoroughly between patient uses to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and equipment according to patient needs and therapist instructions.
  • Assist patients with safe transfers, ambulation, and positioning, as directed by the supervising therapist.
  • Help patients don and doff assistive devices (e.g., braces, walkers) and exercise equipment.
  • Organize and restock linen, supplies, and equipment in therapy areas.
  • Answer phones, schedule appointments, and perform other clerical duties as needed.
  • Transport patients to and from therapy areas safely and efficiently.
  • Observe patients during treatment for any changes and report observations to the supervising therapist.
  • Ensure patient comfort and provide a supportive presence during therapy sessions.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Basic computer proficiency for scheduling and record-keeping.
  • Physical stamina to assist patients with mobility and handle equipment.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy (HIPAA).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service setting.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Enrollment in a relevant health sciences program (e.g., Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Pre-PT).
