Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable individual to join our team as a Plant Nursery Soil Bagger – Outdoor Retail Laborer at our Ontario location. This essential role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, primarily focusing on the preparation and bagging of soil, as well as general labor tasks to support the nursery’s operations. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, and enjoy working in an active, hands-on environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain soil bagging equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load raw soil materials into bagging machines and stack finished bags onto pallets.
- Regularly lift and move heavy bags of soil, plant containers, and other nursery products.
- Assist with the unloading and stocking of incoming plant shipments and garden supplies.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping, tidying, and waste removal.
- Provide assistance to customers by loading purchases into their vehicles when requested.
- Perform general groundskeeping tasks such as weeding, watering, and pruning as needed.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Support other retail and nursery operations as directed by supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including frequent lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Capable of consistently lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a nursery, landscaping, construction, or outdoor labor role.
- Forklift operation certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Basic knowledge of plants or gardening.
- Customer service experience.
