Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Polymer & Plastics Engineering Intern to join our innovative Materials Science team in Overland Park, KS. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the research, development, and testing of advanced polymer materials for a variety of applications. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists, contributing to real-world projects and learning about the full lifecycle of polymer material development from concept to application.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel polymer formulations.
- Conduct laboratory experiments, including material preparation, processing, and testing (e.g., mechanical, thermal, rheological).
- Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, documenting findings thoroughly.
- Contribute to technical reports and presentations summarizing research outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ongoing materials development projects.
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute innovative ideas for material improvements.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong academic background in polymer chemistry, physics, or materials science principles.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with polymer processing equipment (e.g., extruders, injection molders) is a plus.
- Experience with material characterization techniques (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, SEM).
- Familiarity with statistical analysis software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated passion for materials innovation and sustainable solutions.
