Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Psychiatric Assistant to join our mental health team in Cambridge, MA. This entry-level role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of patients with mental health conditions. As a Psychiatric Assistant, you will provide essential support to patients and clinical staff, contributing to a safe, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented environment. Full training will be provided to ensure you are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in this vital support role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities as needed, promoting independence and dignity.
- Monitor and observe patient behavior and emotional state, reporting significant changes to nursing staff.
- Engage patients in therapeutic activities, promoting social interaction and skill development.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Provide empathetic support and encouragement to patients, fostering a sense of hope and recovery.
- Assist with intake procedures, documentation, and administrative tasks as directed.
- Respond to patient needs and concerns promptly and professionally, escalating issues when necessary.
- Collaborate effectively with nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation
- Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA)
- Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service setting
- Knowledge of basic psychiatric terminology or mental health concepts
- CPR and First Aid certification
