Job Description
Join the Ontario Provincial Ferry Services as a Public Ferry Deckhand Trainee! This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to start a career in marine transportation with no prior experience required. We are seeking enthusiastic and reliable individuals who are eager to learn the ropes of ferry operations and contribute to essential public services. Full comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with all the necessary skills and certifications to become a proficient Deckhand. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers and crew on our provincial ferry routes.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all aspects of deckhand training and certification programs.
- Assist with mooring, docking, and undocking procedures under supervision.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of passengers during boarding, transit, and disembarkation.
- Provide clear and helpful instructions to passengers, including safety briefings.
- Conduct routine checks of the vessel's deck, ensuring cleanliness and order.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of vehicles and cargo.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on deck equipment as directed.
- Respond effectively to emergency situations, including fire and man overboard drills.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies at all times.
- Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated marine crew.

- Physical fitness to perform duties such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Interest in maritime operations or public service.
- Previous experience in a customer service role is an asset (but not required).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (will be provided if not held).
