Job Description
Join BAE Systems in Portsmouth as an Experienced Welder, specializing in TIG/MIG techniques. Key Responsibilities
- Perform TIG and MIG welding on various materials, primarily steel and aluminium, to required specifications and codes.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine appropriate welding processes and materials.
- Set up and operate welding equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
- Inspect completed welds for quality, integrity, and adherence to dimensional tolerances using various inspection methods.
- Prepare materials for welding, including cutting, grinding, and cleaning.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to team efforts.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a TIG and MIG Welder (minimum 3 years)
- Proficiency in welding steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding procedures.
- Strong understanding of welding safety practices and quality control.
- Demonstrable attention to detail and precision in welding work.
- Relevant welding certifications (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 in Welding Fabrication or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the marine, shipbuilding, or heavy fabrication industries.
- Familiarity with various welding positions (e.g., 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, 6G).
- Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for weld inspection.
- Relevant apprenticeship or vocational training.
