Job Description

Are you passionate about working outdoors and contributing to your community? The City of Irvine Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated Public Lands Groundskeeper to help maintain the beauty and functionality of our city’s extensive park system and public lands. This entry-level role offers comprehensive training and an excellent package of public sector benefits. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general landscape maintenance including mowing, weeding, pruning, planting, and mulching.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, as well as light motor equipment such as mowers, trimmers, edgers, and blowers.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of parks, sports fields, and open spaces to identify and report maintenance needs, hazards, or vandalism.
  • Perform litter removal, waste management, and general cleanup of public areas.
  • Assist in the setup and takedown for city events and public activities.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other groundskeepers and department staff to achieve maintenance goals.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to learn and operate landscape maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Strong work ethic and a commitment to maintaining high standards of public grounds.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices and a proactive approach to workplace safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Previous experience in general labor, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance is a plus, but not required.
