Job Description

Join the Devonport City Council team as a Public Pool Attendant, focusing on lifeguarding and safety. This vital role ensures a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons at our public aquatic facilities. You will be responsible for vigilant supervision of swimmers, enforcing pool rules, and responding to emergencies with quick and effective action. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about community safety, who are attentive, responsible, and excellent communicators. Full training and support for essential certifications will be provided to the right candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vigilantly monitor patrons in and around the pool area to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
  • Respond immediately and effectively to emergencies, including performing rescues and providing first aid/CPR.
  • Enforce all pool rules and regulations fairly and consistently to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
  • Conduct regular safety checks of the pool area, equipment, and facilities.
  • Assist with basic pool maintenance tasks, such as water quality checks and general cleaning.
  • Provide excellent customer service, answering patron questions and assisting with their needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, daily activities, and attendance.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.
  • Assist with setting up and packing down equipment for various aquatic programs and events.

Required Skills

  • Ability to swim proficiently and pass a pre-employment swim test.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and act decisively in emergency situations.
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • Willingness to obtain or current holder of a valid First Aid certificate.
  • Willingness to obtain or current holder of a valid CPR certificate.
  • Willingness to obtain or current holder of a valid Pool Lifeguard Award (training provided if needed).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a lifeguarding or aquatic environment.
  • Current Pool Lifeguard Award.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
  • Experience working with diverse age groups and communities.
