Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and technically proficient IT Support Officer with a strong network focus to join our Public Sector IT team. This role is crucial in maintaining the stability and performance of our internal network infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations for all Council departments. You will be responsible for providing technical assistance, troubleshooting network issues, and supporting a wide range of hardware and software within a secure, public sector environment. Key Responsibilities
- Provide first and second-level IT support for all Council staff, with a particular emphasis on network-related issues.
- Monitor network performance, identify potential problems, and implement preventative measures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network connectivity issues for desktops, laptops, servers, and other peripherals.
- Configure, maintain, and support network devices such as routers, switches, and wireless access points.
- Assist with the deployment, migration, and maintenance of IT systems and applications.
- Document IT procedures, network configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
- Ensure compliance with Council's IT policies, security protocols, and relevant public sector guidelines.
- Participate in IT projects, including system upgrades and infrastructure enhancements.
- Provide technical training and guidance to end-users as needed.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in an IT support role with a focus on networking.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and other network protocols.
- Familiarity with LAN/WAN concepts and network topology.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting Windows operating systems (Windows 10, Server OS).
- Experience with Active Directory user and computer management.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals).
- Experience with virtualisation technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Knowledge of IT security best practices and data protection regulations.
- Previous experience working in a public sector or government environment.
- Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or a related field.
