Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Records Manager to join our Corporate Information team. This vital role is responsible for the strategic management, compliance, and integrity of the Department’s records and information holdings. You will play a key part in ensuring our information management practices adhere to government standards and legislation, supporting the Department’s operational efficiency and transparency. This position offers a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to contribute to significant government initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain records management policies, procedures, and systems in line with National Archives of Australia (NAA) standards and relevant legislation.
  • Oversee the lifecycle management of corporate records, including creation, capture, storage, access, and disposal.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to staff on best practice records and information management principles and compliance requirements.
  • Manage the Department's Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) and related information management tools.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of records management practices to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for staff on records management policies and system usage.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including the National Archives of Australia, on records management matters.
  • Contribute to projects aimed at enhancing information governance and digital transformation initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in records and information management within a large, complex organisation, preferably government.
  • Strong understanding of the Archives Act 1983, the Australian Government Recordkeeping Metadata Standard, and other relevant legislative and policy frameworks.
  • Demonstrated experience with Electronic Document and Records Management Systems (EDRMS), such as HPE Content Manager (formerly TRIM).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Management, Library Science, Archival Studies, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in developing and delivering records management training.
  • Project management skills and experience in information governance projects.
