Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Refugee Liaison Support officer to join our team on the Gold Coast. This vital role involves acting as a key point of contact and support for refugees and asylum seekers, facilitating their integration into Australian society, and ensuring their access to crucial public services. You will work within the public sector framework, collaborating with government agencies, non-profit organisations, and community groups to provide holistic support. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about social justice, cultural diversity, and making a tangible difference in people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide initial contact and ongoing support to refugees and asylum seekers to assess their needs and connect them with appropriate services.
  • Act as a liaison between refugees and various government departments (e.g., health, education, housing, employment) and community organisations.
  • Assist individuals and families with navigating administrative processes, form completion, and understanding their rights and responsibilities.
  • Organise and facilitate information sessions, workshops, and cultural orientation programs for new arrivals.
  • Advocate for the needs of refugees and asylum seekers within the public sector, identifying and addressing systemic barriers.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions and support provided.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to develop and implement effective support strategies.
  • Monitor and report on client progress and service outcomes.

  • Fluency in a language commonly spoken by refugee communities (e.g., Arabic, Dari, Ukrainian, Swahili).
  • Previous experience in community engagement, social services, or public sector roles.
  • Knowledge of Australian immigration and refugee policies and services.
