Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Remote Government Payroll Clerk to join our dynamic team. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in Canada, while being officially based out of our Vancouver office. As a Payroll Clerk, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll for government employees. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of payroll principles, and the ability to work independently within a structured environment. You will be responsible for a variety of payroll-related tasks, contributing to the efficient operation of a vital government function.
Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payroll for a designated group of government employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal regulations and collective agreements.
- Verify timesheets, leave requests, and other payroll-related documentation.
- Calculate and process deductions, including taxes, pension contributions, and benefits.
- Reconcile payroll data and resolve any discrepancies or issues promptly.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and leave balances.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Prepare and submit various payroll reports as required.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including T4 preparation.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll legislation and internal policies.
- Collaborate with HR and finance departments to ensure seamless payroll operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 18 months of experience in a payroll or accounting support role.
- Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or government-specific systems).
- Strong understanding of payroll processes and principles.
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
- Solid knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation and tax regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute (NPI).
- Experience working within a government or public sector environment.
- Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
