Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Bilingual Translator to join our remote team. This crucial role involves providing translation services for various government documents and communications. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional fluency in both official languages (English and French), a strong understanding of government terminology, and a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality. This is a 100% remote position, offering flexibility and the opportunity to contribute to vital public services from anywhere in Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate official government documents, reports, correspondence, and various communications from English to French and French to English.
- Ensure high levels of accuracy, linguistic quality, and adherence to established terminology guidelines and stylistic conventions.
- Proofread and edit translated materials to ensure grammatical correctness, clarity, and consistency.
- Manage multiple translation projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks to meet strict deadlines.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all sensitive government information.
- Collaborate with project managers and other translators to ensure linguistic consistency and quality across all projects.
- Utilize translation memory tools and other linguistic software to enhance efficiency and maintain consistency.
Required Skills
- Exceptional fluency in both English and French (written and spoken).
- Proven ability to translate complex information accurately and efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent research skills to ensure correct terminology and context.
- Proficiency in using translation memory (TM) software and other CAT tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- A university degree in Translation, Linguistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional translation experience, particularly with government or legal documents.
- Knowledge of Canadian government structure, policies, and terminology.
- Certification from a recognized translation association (e.g., CTTIC, OTTIAQ).
- Experience with specialized terminology in areas such as law, public administration, or finance.
