Job Description

Join our passionate team at Wildlife Haven Sanctuary as a Zookeeper / Exotic Animal Specialist. This is a unique opportunity for dedicated animal care professionals to contribute to the well-being of a diverse collection of exotic species. We are specifically seeking talented individuals globally and offer visa sponsorship for eligible candidates. You will be responsible for the daily care, enrichment, and observation of various animals, ensuring their health, safety, and a high quality of life. This on-site role requires a strong understanding of animal behavior, nutrition, and conservation principles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily feeding and watering of assigned animals according to strict dietary protocols.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of animal enclosures, exhibits, and holding areas to high hygiene standards.
  • Implementing and monitoring environmental enrichment programs to promote natural behaviors.
  • Observing animal health and behavior, reporting any changes or concerns to veterinary staff.
  • Assisting with animal medical procedures, restraint, and transport as needed.
  • Maintaining detailed daily records of animal care, feeding, and enrichment activities.
  • Engaging with the public through educational talks and answering visitor questions.
  • Participating in animal training and behavioral management programs.
  • Contributing to conservation initiatives and research projects.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of professional experience in animal husbandry, preferably with exotic species.
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare principles and species-specific care requirements.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent observation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to animal conservation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Zoology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with venomous reptiles, primates, or large carnivores.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience with operant conditioning and positive reinforcement training.
  • Proficiency in data recording software.
  • Valid UK driving license.
