Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Risk & Resilience Lead to enhance our corporate governance framework. This pivotal role will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing risk management and business resilience strategies across the university. You will work closely with senior leadership, faculties, and professional services to identify, assess, and mitigate risks, ensuring Deakin University’s operations are secure, compliant, and prepared for future challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the university's enterprise risk management framework and policies.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and reporting of strategic, operational, and emerging risks.
  • Design and execute business continuity and disaster recovery plans to ensure organisational resilience.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to faculties and professional services on risk mitigation strategies and compliance requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices to ensure the university's governance framework remains current and effective.
  • Prepare comprehensive risk reports and present findings to the Executive Board and other relevant committees.
  • Foster a strong risk-aware culture across the university through training and communication initiatives.
  • Manage and respond to incident management and crisis situations, coordinating with relevant stakeholders.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in developing and implementing enterprise risk management frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of corporate governance principles and regulatory compliance (e.g., GRC standards).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in risk management software and reporting tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate qualification in Business, Finance, Law, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP).
  • Experience within the higher education sector or a similarly complex public sector organisation.
  • Familiarity with Australian regulatory environment and governance standards relevant to universities.
