Job Description
Armidale Industrial Coatings Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Sandblaster / Coater to join our dedicated team in Armidale. This role is crucial in ensuring the longevity and protection of various heavy industrial equipment, structures, and machinery through expert surface preparation and application of protective coatings. You will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in all operations, contributing directly to our reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for coating by abrasive blasting (sandblasting) using various media and equipment according to project specifications.
- Apply a range of protective coatings, including epoxies, polyurethanes, and zinc-rich primers, using spray guns, rollers, and brushes.
- Inspect prepared surfaces and applied coatings to ensure compliance with specifications, quality standards, and client requirements.
- Safely operate and maintain blasting and coating equipment, including compressors, blast pots, spray pumps, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, industry regulations, and environmental guidelines.
- Perform quality control checks, including dry film thickness measurements, adhesion tests, and visual inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment maintenance logs.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and project managers to ensure efficient project execution and timely completion.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Sandblaster and Coater in a heavy industrial environment (minimum 3 years).
- Demonstrated knowledge of various abrasive blasting techniques and media selection.
- Proficiency in applying industrial coatings using conventional and airless spray equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, coating datasheets, and safety data sheets (SDS).
- Strong understanding of surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE, ISO).
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, durable work.
- Ability to work safely in challenging industrial environments, including at heights or in confined spaces.
- Valid Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification or certification in surface preparation and protective coatings.
- Current Confined Space and Working at Heights tickets.
- Forklift operator license.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Experience with plural component spray systems.
